Rights and Responsibilities Go Hand in Hand
HR Proactive Inc. is proud to introduce Human Rights 101, a 30-minute online training program designed to give employees and supervisors a clear, plain-language understanding of human rights in Canadian workplaces.
Available in separate Employee and Supervisor versions, the program combines essential human rights principles with realistic workplace situations and interactive decision points.
Human rights complaints can be costly, disruptive and damaging to workplace relationships and culture. One of the most effective forms of prevention is education.
Human Rights 101 helps employees and supervisors understand their rights and responsibilities before concerns arise.
The program explores how human rights apply to everyday workplace situations, including discrimination, harassment, protected grounds, reprisal and the duty to accommodate.
Learners explore what accommodation means, when the duty to accommodate may arise, their role in the accommodation process, and the importance of working together to identify appropriate workplace solutions.
Employees learn how to recognize a potential human rights concern, what to do when something happens and where to turn for support.
Supervisors build on these fundamentals by learning how to recognize and respond to concerns, document appropriately, maintain confidentiality, involve HR when needed, and follow up after a concern or accommodation request.
More than a compliance program, Human Rights 101 creates a shared understanding of workplace human rights and helps people make better decisions when situations arise.
Human Rights Training
in the Workplace
Human Rights 101 was developed by HR Proactive Inc., a Canadian-owned and operated, second-generation family business founded by a former Ontario Human Rights Commission Mediator and Investigator.
The program combines human rights expertise with plain-language guidance, realistic workplace scenarios and examples that bring key concepts to life.
Employees receive a clear introduction to workplace human rights and their role in maintaining a respectful and inclusive workplace.
The program helps employees understand their rights and responsibilities, recognize potential discrimination and harassment, understand the duty to accommodate, participate appropriately in the accommodation process, and know how and where to raise a concern.
The Supervisor program includes the core human rights principles covered in the Employee program, with additional emphasis on the responsibilities that come with a supervisory role.
Supervisors learn how to recognize when an issue may involve human rights, respond when an employee raises a concern, document objective and factual information, maintain confidentiality, involve HR when needed, understand their role in accommodation, and follow up appropriately.
The scenarios in Human Rights 101 draw on insights gained through our experience conducting workplace investigations and addressing human rights concerns.
They reflect modern workplace situations that employees and supervisors could realistically encounter in almost any organization, including the kinds of interactions, decisions and grey areas that are not always clear in the moment.
For supervisors, the scenarios also reflect the added responsibility associated with their role and the decisions they may be required to make when a concern arises.
Finding high-quality, jurisdiction-specific compliance training within a general content library can be challenging.
